Lamu’s Fresh attacks

Barely a week after the Mpeketoni attacks in Lamu County that led to scores of injuries and death rates in the area, fresh attacks emerged in Witu, Lamu County on Tuesday morning. The renewed attacks have led to the death of five people from Pandanguo Village, almost 38 kilo meters from Mpeketoni. The Mpeketoni attacks saw 60 people lose their lives.  

Al Shabaab claimed the responsibility from last week’s attacks but President Uhuru Kenyatta had other ideas. According to the president’s statement after the Mpeketoni attacks, the Al Shabaab had nothing to do with the attacks. The president has blamed the incident on the political networks in the area.

With the increased rate of insecurity in the area and more attacks, area residents are a worried lot. Will these attacks come to an end? Will the residents finally get back to their previous normal peaceful lives?

Zebedeo Opore wins Bonchari by-election

On Monday, 23^rd of June 2014, the people of Bonchari constituency set to choose their new leader in a by election that saw seven candidates battling it out. The Bonchari constituency seat was left vacant after the election of Oyioka was nullified by court. 

Zebedeo Opore of Ford People emerged the winner of the tight race. The highly contested parliamentary seat saw Oyioka emerge second with a total of 6,977 votes, followed closely by Onyacha with 5,171 votes. Opore managed to gather 10,947 votes from 81 polling stations to make him the winner in the by-election.

Democratic Party candidate David Ogega managed to gather a total of 683 votes followed by Kenya National Congress candidate Paul Matagaro with 545 votes. Other candidates from Kenya Social Congress and Kenya Labor Party Geoffrey Omwando and Charles Mogaka managed to gather 84 and 42 votes consecutively.

There was a voter turnout of 61% with 673 casted votes being rejected. The IEBC used the new Results Transmission System (RTS) to transmit the results from the polling stations to the tallying centre, Itiero Boys Secondary School. The IEBC further ensured that the election was run fairly by using Electronic Voter Identification Devices (EVIDs). These devices ensure that there is no double voting.

You must watch this!!!!!! Men beating women in their own game!

When we all started advocating for equal rights and bore the slogan “what a man can do a woman can do better, I guess we forgot to consider the other side of the coin. As the saying goes, there are two sides of the coin. It’s time we considered the fact that men can also be twice as good at what women do.

Have been dancing for as long as I can remember; and by really shaking it I mean when I am a bit tipsy. Alcohol has a way of boosting ones confidence. You’ll find yourself doing things that you would never think of doing in a sober mood. Dancing is one of such activities for me. Most of the dancing was, and is still done in a night out when I have had one too many. And this dancing is usually done in flat shoes, mostly referred to as doll shoes by the campus Chiquita’s. Heels are a no go zone when vigorous dancing is on my list. 

It therefore hits me by surprise that I am not a good dancer or anywhere close to such terms, when I see a group of young men shaking it. The best part is that this group of young men, whose name I am yet to discover, can really shake it in a pair of heels. They are much better at it than some of our ladies who can barely locate their centre of gravity in a pair of heels. 

Ladies that walk like drank grasshoppers need to borrow a leaf from these men.

Are you a South African? Traveler? Tourist? New travel rules have been set by Kenya for South African Travelers

New Kenyan rules for South Africa travelers

New travel regulations have been introduced by the Kenyan government through the High Commission. South Africans travelling to or transiting through Kenya will be required to produce their visa. The new regulations will be imposed from 1^st July 2014. Previously, it was possible for South Africa citizens to travel to Kenya, or transit through the country without their visas, if the visit was for less than 30 days.

The new regulations require South Africans to pay a visa fee of Ksh. 7600, equivalent to $69 or R750. The visa application period will take five working days and will be issued in advance at the Kenyan embassy, rather than on arrival.

Visa applicants are also expected to produce some documents to enable the processing of their visas:1

•       Invitation letter from the host in Kenya
•          Return air ticket
•          Letter from school/employer/institution
•         Should produce their Bank statement
•      Applicants are supposed to show up in person for Biometrics
•         And two passport photographs

However, the regulations will not affect holders of diplomatic passports. Holders of such documents will just receive visitor’s passes on their arrival in the country.
