Barely a week after the Mpeketoni attacks in Lamu
County that led to scores of injuries and death rates in the area, fresh
attacks emerged in Witu, Lamu County on Tuesday morning. The renewed attacks
have led to the death of five people from Pandanguo Village, almost 38 kilo
meters from Mpeketoni. The Mpeketoni attacks saw 60 people lose their lives.
Al Shabaab claimed the responsibility from last
week’s attacks but President Uhuru Kenyatta had other ideas. According to the
president’s statement after the Mpeketoni attacks, the Al Shabaab had nothing
to do with the attacks. The president has blamed the incident on the political
networks in the area.
With the increased rate of insecurity in the area and
more attacks, area residents are a worried lot. Will these attacks come to an
end? Will the residents finally get back to their previous normal peaceful
lives?
